Local Bottler Inducted into “Soft Drink Hall of Fame”
Beverage World Magazine honors RC Beverage Company’s Leo King Jr.
For over 25 years, Beverage World magazine has honored an exclusive group of beverage executives exhibiting devotion, creativity, and love for the soft drink industry as inductees into its “Soft Drink Hall of Fame.” These individuals have commanded the respect and admiration of their peers for their extraordinary service, and represent the very best of the best in the industry. Royal Crown Beverage Company of Evansville’s own Leo King Jr. will join this elite group on October 20th, 2008 in Las Vegas. As the owner of Royal Crown Beverage Company for more than 50 years, Mr. King has positioned himself as an innovator and industry leader.
In 1956, after attending college and serving in the Army, Mr. King bought an interest in the Henderson RC-Nehi franchise and by 1958, took over management of the Evansville RC business. Mr. King faced intense competition in those years, fighting competing business from 9 other soft drink providers in the area. Mr. King persevered however, by becoming the first in the market to implement important manufacturing, packaging, and product innovations, including being the first local distributor to offer the 16 oz bottle. After 50 years of dedicated work, Mr. King’s Royal Crown Beverage Company of Evansville stands alone as the only remaining bottling plant in the market. His business today serves more than 2 million consumers in 86 counties across 5 states.
As a result of his drive to advance the soft drink industry, Mr. King has earned great respect from his peers. Larry D. Young, President and CEO of Dr. Pepper Snapple Group says of Mr. King, “Throughout his career, he has been a model of integrity, demonstrating that you can accomplish great things in this business while staying true to your guiding principles. We’re privileged to know and work with Leo.” Mr. King’s passion for the soft drink business is only matched by his passion for the community. He has been involved in numerous area business boards and community organizations. In 2003, he was also named Distinguished Citizen of the Year in Henderson for his community involvement.
Please join us in congratulating Mr. King on this amazing honor.
